“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

1. Fix Your Eyes on Jesus: Keeping our focus on Him is paramount. When our gaze is fixed on Jesus, we find the strength to keep going, even when the path is unclear.

 

2. Set Realistic Small Goals: Break down big challenges into manageable steps. Each small win builds your confidence and capacity to endure more.

 

3. Prioritize Self-Care: You can't pour from an empty cup. This includes adequate sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and mental breaks.

 

4. Find Your Hope & Motivation: Identify what fuels your spirit during tough times. This could be a vision of your future, inspirational music, podcasts, or a strong support system.

 

5. Cultivate Mental Toughness: This involves reframing challenges, focusing on what you can control, and practicing positive self-talk.

 

6. Seek Support: Don't go it alone. Lean on friends, family, mentors, or communities who believe in you and can offer encouragement or practical help.

 

7. Learn from Feedback & Setbacks: Every obstacle is a lesson. Analyze what went wrong, adapt your approach, and try again. This builds resilience – a key component of endurance.

  What It Means to Last (And Why You Need It Now) 

Endurance isn't just about physical stamina. To me, it's about having the mental fortitude and emotional resilience to withstand pressure, setbacks, and disappointments. It's the agility to push through difficult situations or circumstances when others might give up.

 


Endurance is the ability to endure an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. It is the capacity of something to last or to withstand wear and tear.

 

Crucially, endurance also involves leaning on God for strength through life’s trials. It means getting through the trial without compromising or wavering, persevering in a task, and pressing forward against all odds by relying on God’s presence. In times of trial, we must learn to always run TO God, not FROM God, and to ask for wisdom.

 

Endurance is incredibly crucial for young adults and university students today. Without it, it's easy to give up on goals when faced with challenges or compromise too soon because of difficulty. Endurance is what helps you stand firm and tall, even when facing the toughest battles.

 

Common Misconceptions About Endurance:

As children of God, we're called to endure in the face of trial or opposition, and our endurance brings about spiritual rewards. The Bible refers to it as "fighting the good fight of faith."

 

Endurance does not mean never feeling tired or always being strong. It's okay to feel tired. You can't be strong all the time, or you'll wear out. When you feel weary or fall, take a rest or a break, and then get back up. Always keep your ultimate goal in mind, and find things that motivate you – whether it's a song, a podcast, or a personal mantra that recharges your energy.

 

Endurance isn't something people are born with; it's a skill learned and honed over time through experience and intentional effort.

 

My Journey Through the Fire: A Personal Testament to Endurance:

During my university days, I faced immense challenges. Trying to change courses was incredibly stressful – I was juggling two different campuses two hours apart, constantly pushing to meet new criteria. Then, the worst happened: I was supposed to graduate in 2018, but I was told I hadn't passed all my exams.

 

I discovered I needed to go back to my former faculty, two hours away, write an exam, and complete file work in the admin block to prove my course change – all this, right when I was meant to be graduating after five long years. I almost died; it was the worst moment of my life. The stress of running around, the frustration, it was just too much, and I almost gave up. By the time I finished everything, it was too late. The Senate had already released the list of graduates, and my name wasn't on it. I went home shattered.

 

But about three months later, I picked up the pieces. I found the courage, endured the shame and disappointment, and went back to school to clear everything. It was hard to watch my classmates celebrate their induction online, knowing I wasn't there. But my persistence paid off. The following year, my name was released, and I was inducted. That moment taught me the true power of enduring.

6. Practical application: Recognizing endurance as a practical skill developed through discipline, pushing limits, and persevering through discomfort. 

 

7. Essential for Christian life: The Bible highlights its role in character development and receiving promised rewards.
