Grow: Why True Maturity Takes Time (and Process Matters) — Part 1

Growth Is the Way – Not the Shortcut

In a world obsessed with instant success, quick wins, and overnight fame, it's easy to assume that true maturity or achievement should come fast. But real growth — the kind that lasts — doesn’t happen in a moment. It happens in steps. Growth isn't glamorous. Growth takes time. Its often silent. And its the only path to a life that truly lasts. This post is your reminder: Dont just arrive. Grow.

Growth is the step-by-step advancement from grass to grace. Its not a sudden leap, but a daily process of becoming. It’s not just about gaining — it’s about being stretched. It’s not just about doing more — it’s about becoming more. It’s about moving from one level to the next, causing an increment in every area of your life – whether it’s your character, skills, relationships, or spiritual walk.

True maturity is a product of consistent growth, not an instantaneous arrival. Consider a business you build and grow yourself versus one you inherit. The one you painstakingly grew will likely last longer because you understand its foundations, its challenges, and its intricate workings. The same applies to wealth, skills, and even spiritual growth/stature; you have to grow your own.

Why Growth Matters More Than Quick Maturity

Quick success is tempting, but it rarely lasts.
Just like a seed must be planted, watered, and nurtured — you can’t microwave maturity.

Same with:

Relationships you invest in vs. ones handed to you.

Wealth you earn vs. wealth you stumble into.

Spiritual growth through testing vs. shallow emotional highs.

Growth lasts. Shortcuts don’t. Quick maturity fades on time. For example, a business you build and grow by yourself will last more than one you met or inherited (a ready-made business) because you won't be able to manage it, just as with wealth. You have to grow your own.

Growth is about following established procedures and processes for success, learning invaluable lessons along the way. True growth doesn't bypass the journey; it embraces it. Don't just jump into maturity, but grow. It’s the journey of becoming. Of increasing, not just in what you have, but in who you are. It’s in the maturing of your character, the strengthening of your spiritual life, the refining of your discipline, and the deepening of your relationships.

Why Growth Can’t Be Skipped and The Dangers/Consequences of Skipping the Process (Why Quick Maturity Fades)

We live in a microwave generation — fast food, fast fame, fast money. But here’s the truth: anything that grows fast and without roots won’t last.

You see it all around:

-People chasing “get rich quick” schemes that fizzle.

-Relationships rushed into without maturity.

-Spiritual lives that look deep on the outside but are shallow within.

When you don’t grow into your success, you collapse under it.

Imagine being handed a business you didn’t build. You’ll struggle to manage what you never learned to develop. The same goes for wealth, influence, or spiritual authority. You must grow your own. Otherwise, you won't sustain it.

When you skip growth:

-Riches will not last, inability to manage maturity, incompetence.

-Unsustainability: Lack of foundational understanding means quick gains often evaporate.

-Incompetence/Lack of Management: Without the journey, you don't develop the skills, wisdom, and character to sustain success or handle challenges.

-Fragility: What's built quickly often crumbles quickly.

-Burnout, Pride, Shaky foundations, Shallow results.

You don’t want a life that looks big but has no substance.
You don’t want success that comes quickly but crushes you under pressure.

Growth Is Non-Negotiable

If you want to last, you have to grow; it’s not optional. Don’t be afraid of starting small. Don’t resent the process. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s highlight reel. You’re not late. You’re growing. Growth is important because if we don't follow the process of growth and jump into maturity, we'll not last. Most people in this generation don’t want to follow the process of a thing; they just want the achievement or the part where they make all the money(get-rich-quick scheme). Anyone who avoids the process ends up empty when the pressure comes.

Get-rich-quick schemes fade.
Instant success without substance crumbles.
✅ But consistent growth? That endures.

The Pressures That Hinder Growth (Struggles that make us want to refuse the process)

-External Pressure: From peers, parents, societal expectations (the "get rich quick" mentality, trying to impress others).

-Internal Struggles: Lack of contentment, impatience, fear of the difficult process itself.

-These pressures tempt us to seek shortcuts, to desire the fruit without the roots.

But,

Don’t Bypass the Journey — It’s Part of the Blessing. True growth doesn’t skip steps. It goes through the fire, not around it. It learns, fails, adjusts, and rises — stronger. So stay in the process. Stay teachable.

Let your roots go deep. For what you grow, you can sustain.

Biblical Truth: Even Joseph Had to Grow

Look at Joseph’s story. He had dreams of greatness — of leadership, influence, and honor. But before he saw the palace, he saw the pit. He didn’t jump from the pit to the palace overnight. He was sold into slavery by his brothers. Falsely accused and thrown into prison. Forgotten by the people he helpedand still faithful.

Joseph could have given up. But instead, he grew. His faith grew. His character deepened. His wisdom matured. By the time Pharaoh called for him, he was ready; he had the wisdom and maturity to handle it. He didn’t inherit favor — he grew into it.

Genesis 41:39-40 — “Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Since God has made all this known to you… You shall be in charge of my palace.’”

Joseph didn’t just arrive. He grew into his destiny. Because Joseph had grown, he could govern.

I know this firsthand. There was a time I had to endure a tremendous process of training to master a skill. It wasn't easy, but because of that journey, I became an expert and can now confidently teach others. That lasting expertise came directly from embracing the growth process.

Growth is a continuous, intentional, and often challenging process, but it's the only path to lasting success and true fulfillment. Understanding why growth is essential is the first step. In Part 2 of 'The Growth Journey,' we'll unpack the practical strategies and daily habits you can adopt to cultivate consistent growth in every area of your life.

Growth isn’t glamorous, but its necessary.
The things you grow — not the things you inherit — are what you can sustain.”

In Part 2 of “Grow,” we’ll explore practical ways to develop your growth muscle and embrace the journey with faith, patience, and intentional steps.
