In a world where "love" is often a flickering feeling, God’s love is a fixed foundation.
Beyond Human Kindness
We often define love by what we see around us - human kindness, compassion, or affection. It’s the unselfish concern for someone else's good.
While these are beautiful reflections of the divine, human love is often limited by our capacity and our circumstances. You may have been hurt or betrayed by someone you loved. Perhaps it’s happened more than once.
We know that loving and trusting people is risky; once you’ve been burned, it’s hard to open up again.
A Love as Vast as the Heavens
But there is a love that operates on a completely different level. God’s love is not just a better version of human love; it is the original model.
Psalm 36:5-7: "Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds... How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of Your wings."
Jeremiah 31:3: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness." His love didn't have a starting point, so it won't have an ending point.
Lamentations 3:22-23: "Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassion never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
God will not let you down because His love cannot fail. It is as steady as the mighty mountains and as deep as the ocean.
While humans may slip or change their minds, God’s "Hesed" (His loyal, covenant love) remains the one constant in a shaky world.
The Perfection of the Model
According to 1 Corinthians 13, this love is patient and kind. It isn't jealous, boastful, or rude. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs or demand its own way. It endures through every circumstance.
When we read this chapter, we usually think of it as a checklist for weddings. But first and foremost, it is a description of God’s heart toward you. He is patient with your progress. He is kind in your failures. He keeps no record of your wrongs. He never gives up on you.
This isn't just poetry; it is the fail-proof anchor for your soul, it is a description of how God feels about you right now.
